Steam locomotive shed in Wolsztyn

The only locomotive depot in the world is located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, which still carries out regular passenger services (to Zbąszynek and Poznań). From the agritourism WENA to Wolsztyn is 40 km distance. There are plenty of interesting things to see here that cannot be found anywhere else in Poland. The facility is a cultural institution of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

It is worth mentioning that the Wolsztyn Steam Locomotive Depot with all the facilities and equipment is not a museum facility, but a still active railway transport complex, thanks to which we can keep the memory of this relic of the past. It is possible to view live work of the engine shed and technical facilities, which includes, among others:

Fuel depot from 1885 and expanded in 1940.

Steam engine hall from 1907

Water station from 1907

The turntable from 1908.

Machines from 1918/1930, incl. metalworking machines, pull lathes, center and special lathes, broaching machines, cranes.

In addition, you can observe the preparation of the steam locomotive for driving, visit the museum room with exhibits related to the operation of the station from its beginnings, i.e. 1907, and, above all, see historic vehicles. There are about 30 steam locomotives here, and some of them come from the very beginning of the 20th century. Steam locomotives now traveling on regular routes are post-war.

Visiting the locomotive shed and traveling along the route to Poznań, for example, can also be combined with visiting the capital of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The timetable is available at: https://www.parowozowniaawolsztyn.pl/rozklad-jazdy/.
